Tigercat 630B in windblow action in Aberdeenshire and Moray
The images are courtesy of owner Steven Mair who manages his business SJM Forestry based near Elgin. Some images are also courtesy of Derek Dean, Huntly, saw operator who fells with the company.
As a historical nod to the wide ranging wartime Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) who got everywhere and anywhere, Steven’s team, reacting to the flood of calls from everywhere to assist with clearing council roads, access to houses, forest and farm roads, tracks and trails, referred to themselves laughingly as the Long Range Windblow Group (LRWG). They were at jobs everywhere!
The windblow team were able to cut off trees at the root and the heavy lifting, dragging of the stems was ably carried out by the Tigercat 630B. The ten or so images in the attached PDF link below give an idea of the range of work experienced and even some logs that challenged the 20 tonne machine.
