Association of Professional Foresters – National Forestry Machinery Demonstration is held every two years. The image is from a photograph collection that was originally stored at Kincardine Forest District.

There are no details about the machines other than some names. This period saw the energetic burst of timber harvesting machine ideas with many different types of harvesting heads matched with both wheeled and tracked bases. Historically these were important stages in the evolution of mechanised harvesting.

Another British contribution this time from Richard Smalley – the Timbermite 55 - a small thinnings harvester.

The TM 55 was a stroke fed Harvesting head,these were manufactured and sold by the Smith Brothers from Scotland. These heads looked the same as the Tapio Harvesting head built in Finland.
I operated a Hymac 580D Excavator with a Tapio head from 1989 until 1992.
