This image and the others included in the PDF attached below recall display attractions organised by Kincardine and Buchan Forest Districts as a small part of Union Street pre Christmas celebrations. The Forest Districts participated for several years in the early 1990s bringing in a timber forwarder usually decorated up and also the star attraction of the forest animal puppet show. The lower half of Union Street was closed off perhaps two days and there was usually a bit of a scramble to get everything in place in the evening of the closure. Keeping the loaded forwarder clear of the overhead Christmas lights was always a bit of a challenge!
The puppet show activated by a group of four people from central Scotland worked from a Forest Enterprise stage set organised by Tony Hinde. His day time job was a Wildlife Ranger manager based in Inverness but also had responsibilities for organising wildlife displays for the Forestry Commission Forest Enterprise events at various shows around the North of Scotland. The robust actions and commentaries of the four puppets Owl, Squirrel, Badger and Frog could certainly get attention and quite a reaction from the younger members of the crowd.
