A forestry planting site on former arable land at this time when there was a push to plant more land at lower elevations and where farming was having a more difficult time on land that was not suitable for growing grain crops. Looking at the land around Bogend quarry the scattered forestry blocks and small farming areas appear to have been realigned.

The ploughing has been done with the narrow double throw tine plough to give a good planting spacing across the furrow drain of around 2.0 metres and the spoil acting to suppress the grass growth for a short period. The moderate slope of the drain sides also encourages good root direction down the slope into the deeper soil. The mounted plough also copes well with the steep ground and short runs in some sections.
