O and K Road Grader
Photograph is courtesy of Jim Christie, Crook of Devon, former senior mechanical engineer in the Forestry Commission.
Nice image of an O & K grader in action. The Orenstein and Koppel machine may have been a cheaper option to the Aveling Barford versions but perhaps not always the best option. One experience was the ‘crabbing action’ of the light machines when grading a road surface with the central blade at an angle. The machine was literally pushed sideways as it drove forward to move the road surface material.
Any details from operators would be very welcome.
