Pulling a Track Marshall from beneath a peat bog
Photograph is courtesy of Jim Christie, Crook of Devon, a former senior mechanical engineer in the Forestry Commission.
No information with this image but certainly one of the most spectacular photographic images of a tractor appearing out from beneath the surface of a bog.
The badge is a giveaway as to the tractor make and the wide tracks appearing through the peat lead to a view that this is a Track Marshall 55 possibly around the late 1960s. The wire rope doing the pulling is certainly large diameter and more that suitable for the job in hand. What was at the other end?
The attached image in the PDF below is of poor quality but could be the same tractor before it was pulled out.
