‘A work study sledge, after a Swedish Model, made by Hewittson of Steele Road, nr Newcastleton.’
No other information on location or load size. Another view is shown in the PDF without load. Year is uncertain but judged to be around 1959.
Appears to be similar to the Swedish VSA sledge but minus the wheels on the latter. This is a sizable looking load but could be short logs or pulp lengths rather than the full tree.
See the PDF for view of empty sledge. It looks very light and serviceable and note the ratchet arrangement with wire and then hook to fix to chain for tightening logs onto the swivel bolster. The runners of sledge appear independent fixtures and there for movable and must have some sort of pivot system on joint to the bridging member supporting the load.
Any comments and tales of working with this sledge would be very welcome.
