Workers in Findon Nursery

Date Added: 22 March 2017 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1940 Picture No: 3637

Photograph courtesy of Sandy Gordon, Black Isle, whose father James Gordon was a long service forester in the Forestry Commission.

James Gordon was forester at Findon Forest in the Black Isle before and during WWII, and took several photographs of the workers in what is believed to be Findon Nursery. At this period, in war time conditions, labour to work in the forest and the nursery would have been very scarce and employing women and older children may have been the only way to grow the young trees for and to achieve any planting programmes.

The four adults seen here from the left are:
Jock Cameron
Jessie Gordon
Robert Brown
Margaret Macdonald

Any details of Findon Nursery/Forest and on those who worked there would be very welcome.
