This International 108B Tractor has been modified and again has CEW70 on the front. The winch on the back looks like a Boughton which was very common make at this time and probably driven mechanically. On later tractors the winches were moved around to the front and driven by hydraulics as the ploughs by this time were also lifted by hydraulics, the winch cable lifting long since consigned to history. Hydraulic winches on the tractor front balanced the machine weight better as the tractors were mostly tail heavy but although powerful the hydraulic winches were no match against the mechanical winches when it came to debogging.
Can anyone explain the CEW 70, this machine’s history and name the driver?

The conversion work was carried out in 1976 at the Forestry Commission's Central Engineering Workshops at Chapelhall and the tractor was then known as the CEW 70.
CEW stood for Central Engineering Workshops and 70 was the horse power of the tractor engine.
