Neil Nicolson with Bombi Carrier on Skye

Date Added: 02 March 2013 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1981 Picture No: 1655

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

This series of photographs including those in the attached PDF show a Bombardier built Bombi machine which ran on rubber tracks and was capable of taking heavy loads out over soft peaty conditions. This machine in FC51855 and Reg No ?SG594W.

Neil appears to be the Bombi driver and there is also one view with Davie Robertson standing beside the machine holding a peat depth probe. This machine appears to be slightly smaller that the Muskeg made in Canada also possibly by the same company.

Any information on the machine and Neil (including the correct version of his surname) would be very welcome.

Great picture. I have a Bombi, this vehicle appears to have double row idlers as well as rubber tracks. I want this for mine. Does anyone have any info on Bombi spares and where I can get rubber tracks etc? Comment left on 13 May 2015 at 22:57 by Stephen Darch
