Work diversion in Strathyre Forest Nursery

William spent two years on a Forestry Commission apprentice scheme in Strathyre Forest living in the hostel with about 16 other young lads.
Here some of his forestry colleagues Jimmy Dewar and Fred Menzies squaring up for the photograph with James Stuart looking on from the lining out boards. Note the shelter erected to protect workers and young tree plants from the wind and sun.

That is my father Jimmy Dewar and Fred Menzies. We lived at No 10 Keip Road and Fred and Cathy Menzies were at No6. (Forestry Commission houses)My father died prematurely in 1982 having taken early retirement from the Forestry Commission the year before due to a health issue and sadly Fred died very recently aged 91. I have the photograph somewhere in the archives! Happy memories of a tight knit Forestry Community that sadly no longer exists.
