Jim was in the light photography aircraft that was carrying out an aerial survey of Slattadale and other forests in October 1980.
Jim comments:
‘Taken photograph of Achnashellach Forest was taken on October 12 1980. I have numbered the locations and:
1: The Meadows Sitka spruce planted 1963/4
2: Mainly Norway spruce planted in the 1950's
3: Forestry Commission Houses and depot
4: Forest Worker Holding.
5: The Golden Valley, the felled Larch areas were restocked with Douglas fir.’

It is interesting to look at the large version of the photograph and the bottom part, Area 5, where the large individual trees show up as almost in 3D because of the very strong side light from a low sun.
