Newton Nursery lifting transplants 1981
Photographs courtesy of Alan Duncan, Newton Nursery.
|Early mechanised plant lifting with Z & B single row lifter which conveyed the plants to the back and where they were lifted off in loose bundles ready for counting and tying. The advantage was that the hard pulling up and soil separation was done by the machine leaving only the bundling to be done quickly by hand.
The nursery worker at the back is unidentified but the tractor driver is most likely to be Tommy Milne.
