Photograph of the 1948 – 1950 class at Glentress Forester Training School taken on the same day as the one featuring the combined 1948 – 50 and 1949-51 classes in Picture No 695.
Jim remembers about 1946 he went into Aberdeen to sit an entrance exam for the Forester Training Schools and discovered that there were over 100 people sitting the exam in Aberdeen alone. Some time later at his work on Birkhall (Alltcailleach Forest) a car stopped by and the window opened to reveal District Officer Tom Woolridge. ‘Good news Webster you have passed your exams. But so many passed the exam that you will have to wait another year to get into the School’. Jim was not too happy but was assured that the older chaps returning from the war were being given priority and he did indeed get in the following year.
