Culvert at Bochel Wood, Glenlivet

‘The original road into the Bochel wood at Glenlivet (The Crown Estate) used a ford over the Crombie Water. The year before we went in to thin it for the first time we upgraded the road which included the construction of this multi plate culvert which had wing walls and parapets constructed of local stone. This shows it in mid construction with the beginnings of the stone facing visible to the left of the arch. One local resident looked at it and was convinced that the Crombie was such a spate river that the culvert would be washed out. I am glad to say it survived many spates, including the September 1995 floods and is still doing sterling service today.
The photo was taken in September 1993 and the Landrover 90 was my works vehicle at the time.’
