Order for Pitwood products from RB Farquhar to Charlie Smith.

At one time the Coal Board ordered all its products through centralised dealers there being only one for the Scottish Coalfields. Over time this buying process was devolved to local sawmills possibly on a price competition basis. In this case RB Farquhar of Rhynie has a contract to supply products and is sourcing some via a sub contract from Charlie Smith who by this time had set up as an independent contractor and sawmiller. Charlie was paid the Coal Board prices agreed with RB Farquhar less 5 percent.

It appears that Charlie’s contract included supply delivery of the products to the Coal Board depots.

Interesting to read that RBF was buying Timber from Charlie Smith.

When I worked for Bob Farquhar in the early 1960s he was selling his Timber through “Black O Brechin”.

I never did find out anything about Black but I remember he was a prosperous looking Man who wore a Bowler hat.
