Photograph is part of Bill Stoddart’s collection of images taken when he was a lecturer at several Forester Training Schools. The photographs were handed in by his daughter Lilian Allan at the Forestry Memories drop in day at Huntly on 11 June 2010.

The Glentress students look as though they have just finished an outside working day and heading back to their huts.
No people have been identified so far although there is a similarity between person number 18 in this photograph and person number 21 in photograph 695.

It is probable the image dates from around 1948-1950 but any help to identify people and fix a year would be very welcome.

Can anyone place a make and model on the types of vehicles in the picture?

Jim McIntyre has identified No 20 Struan Stewart
Lillian Allan has identified No 17 as Andy Hislop, No 18 as Alan Kerr (who used to sleep in a hammock at the school) and No 21 as Bill Baggot.

My Dad says this is of 1st and 2nd year students 1948-50.

This picture is in the square at Glentress in front of the large garage which was used to put the lorries and vans in at night. The small hut to side was the oil store for the various vans etc. The small tarred hill going up to the various huts that were used for workers and students accommodation. Just at start of hill is the cook house for preparing food for the students. It looks like the workers, students are heading across square to the dining hall for evening meal.
