Origin of Scots pine trees planted in 1922 at Culbin and in Altyre Forests
This was part of an archived file box recovered from old shed store at Newton by Malcolm Hobson and Ruaridh Maxwell of Forestry and Land Scotland.
Hand written note by G I Forrest of Forest Research in May 1981 of monoterpene analysis of sample of Scots pine sent to him By Mike Phillips, Forester based at Newton, Forest Research. The note lists all the readings and assigns the most likely origins of the trees from Culbin and Altyre Forests that were sampled.
The monoterpene analysis was a breakthrough in determining origins of native Scots pine based on readings determined from all the identifiable native Caledonian pine stands in Scotland. Probably now a process superseded by DNA analysis?
