Moray Forest District office staff day out in the forest restocking site – possibly Culbin Forest
The slides were originally held by the late Alan Green of Forest Research (Newton) but handed over to Lesley Hutcheson by his widow who passed them onto Forestry and Land Scotland and thereafter found their way to Forestry Memories.
The photograph was taken during a Moray Forest District office staff outing into the forest environment for administrative staff to see forest operations and work at first hand. This posed image is of Forest District staff looking at a very young planted tree on what may be a ploughed restock site following clear felling.
The people are from the left:
1. Struan Stewart – Forest District Manager Moray Forest District
2. Lesley Hutcheson (partially hidden) Admin Assistant Moray Forest District
3. Abbie Gordon – role in Moray Forest District?
4. Sandy Watson – Forester Forest Management Moray Forest District
5. Jackie Forsyth Admin Assistant Moray Forest District
The very sandy or pure sand at lower levels in the ground point to the original sand dunes planted in the early days of Culbin Forest. The pine crop had grown and provided some humus and organic matter on the surface which was partially mixed into the sand with the ploughing.
Note the light fencing structure behind the group – is this an electric fence in an attempt to control deer browsing?
