Benmore Forester Training School - students surveying exercise
The photograph is courtesy of Jim Millar, Banbury who attended Benmore from 1952 – 1954.
How many times was the front lawn of Benmore House surveyed with chain, compass, plain table, artillery director and Abney level? Probably every year from 1929 to 1965!
Here the students have an open measuring chain on the left, a folded one in the hand on the right and a sighting instrument on a tripod in the middle. Can anyone identify the instrument?
Jim has named the students from the left:
Malcolm Miles
Frank Marks
Jim Millar
Ian Mitchell
Willie Patience
Jimmy Lyon
Frank Cameron
Any details of their onward forestry careers would be very welcome.
