Roe Stalking gear in 1974
The photograph was taken by the late Finlay MacRae who was a District Officer in the Forestry Commission based in Dingwall at the time. The images are courtesy of his daughter Donna.
It is uncertain if this is Finlay’s own stalking gear or that of one of the Forest Rangers/keepers. Perhaps the vehicle is a clue?
The back ground gear consists of a waterproof jacket with hood next to a heavy duty canvass bag with handles for dragging/carrying carcasses off the hill. On top of the jacket and bag from the left is a pair of binoculars, a heavy duty knife and sheath, below which is perhaps a telescope in a case, then rifle with scope, black leather case for?, over shoulder canvas bag, walking stick, compass, whistle and a Stanley knife handle with saw blade inserted.
