The digitisation of the Slasher was undertaken by, and images courtesy of, the Forest Research Knowledge and Information Management staff based at both the Northern Research Station in Roslin, Scotland and Alice Holt in Surrey, where the original copies are currently located.

Spraying
1,250 acres of the Cannock Chase plantation were sprayed with DDT by a plane to control the pine looper caterpillar. 6,000 Bupalus moth eggs were counted on some pines. Arrangements were made by Forest Entomologist David Bevan. The previous similar spraying was in 1954. Conservator J.S.R. Chard (North West England) said the long term cure was to change the species from Scots to Corsican pine.

Retirements
Mr Frank Baldwin, HEO, Office of Director, England, has retired after 36 years with the Commission.
Miss Ann Brooks MBE, Office of Director, England, has retired after joining the Commission as a shorthand typist in 1926.
District Officer Meets the Queen
Mr R.C. Stern met the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh during the royal visit to the Outward Bound Sea School at Aberdovey.

Family of Foresters
In North Scotland, the Thom family includes a Head Forester, a Forester, an Assistant Forester and a Forest worker.

A Plea
Mr J.C. Voysey (District Officer, Craven Arms) makes a plea for the use of English names instead of the “pseudo-botanic” references to trees.

Militant Squirrel
Mr R.E. Young of Stanway reports on an attack by a squirrel.

Cricket
A report on a cricket match between the North East Conservancy and the Northern Timber Merchants for the Tom Place Cup.
Reports of matches between the North East Conservancy team in the Curtis Bennett Shield competition against the Birmingham Area Civil Service team and the East and West Riding M.P.N.I.

Bowls
Mr D.A. Lloyd (Clerical Assistant, Office of Director, Wales) won the Ivor Owen Cup Singles championship in the Aberystwyth & District Bowls League.
