Date Added: 23 December 2023 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1919 Picture No: 5751

The image is courtesy of Alasdair Cameron, Ross-shire who scanned some documents relating to Kilcoy Estate, rescued from the skip. The front image is a letter from Howdens to Capt E Burton-MacKenzie of Kilcoy Estate offering a ‘high price’ of 3/6 per heaped bushel of good fresh Scots fir cones!

In the PDF (link below) the first letter is that from John Macdonald Ltd, Timber Merchants with a holding response to a query from Kilcoy Estates about prices for different classes of manufactured timber.

The second image in the PDF is a response from A & G Patterson of Inverness, Timber Merchants arranging a meeting in Munlochy Hotel. Signed by Alec Patterson no doubt to discuss buying of timber from Kilcoy Estate that over many years had planted a great many small plantations.

Third image is an invoice from Alexander Mactavish, Ironmonger and Complete House Furnisher, Inverness. The invoice list includes – 4 foot cross cut saw, 6lb American axes, American saw files and other items. Trade with America has been well established in 1919.
