Ledmore nursery – possible open day for the public – Sandy Rose

The date is not certain but Michael believes it is close to 1968 or 1969 and that the location may well be Ledmore with the widely spaced trees of the clone bank behind.
In 1969 the Forestry Commission celebrated its 50 years since it was founded by hosting open days in selected forests and parks around the country. If this is Ledmore the approach path and route through the nursery has been beautifully laid out with new gravel, newly painted posts and perfect edges to the seed beds and transplant lines. The various nursery machines, again cleaned and painted, have been set out and visitors taken around in groups, the operations explained and questions answered. There may have been a small hand out map and information leaflet as seen in the gentleman’s pocket.
Here Sandy Rose is giving some details to two visitors with more individuals on the path behind. Can anyone say what tool Sandy has in his hands?

Sandy discusses his work at the nursery which began in 1949 with the purchase by the Forestry Commission of a rundown farm. He describes the changes in nursery techniques he worked on to produce young tree plants more efficiently and on the machines he developed to assist in this aim.
