Team filling the lining out boards at Ledmore Nursery
The images are courtesy of Michael Lawrence of Bankfoot whose grandfather, Sandy Rose, was Forester and Head Forester at Ledmore Forest Nursery from 1950 (when land was acquired) until his retirement in 1969. In 1966 the nearby Strathord Forest was brought under his charge. The year of the photograph is estimated to be around 1957.
This is one of two images of the board filling teams at work, in this case two ladies working on the one board. Unfortunately one lady’s face is hidden by the large hat. Can they be named? Mike has named the lady on the right as Mrs Margaret Douglas.
Note the shelters covered with light canvass or hessian hung over a metal and wood frame. They provided some shelter for the filling teams and also prevented the small seedlings from blowing out of their slots before the top board was swung over and clamped.
