Crosscutting and stacking timber products at roadside - horse extraction at Scolty
The image is from a photograph collection that was originally stored at Kincardine Forest District.
The year is uncertain but thought to be about 1995 and is one of a series of images of thinning and timber extraction in a conservation sensitive area. The timber dragged to the roadside is cross cut into product lengths and then neatly stacked for pick up by timber lorry.
Note how the timber in the arch is dragged over some crosspieces lying on the road and the trees are lowered onto them. This allows the chainsaw to crosscut cleanly without the saw chain striking the road metal.
