Scolty Woodland area – thinning operation
The image is from a photograph collection that was originally stored at Kincardine Forest District.
The year is uncertain but thought to be about 1995 and is one of a series of images of thinning and timber extraction in a conservation sensitive area. The felled timber is chained and ratcheted up under the frame of the Swedish Timber Arch allowing for easier hauling by the horse. The Swedish horse harness fits the short shafts from the timber arch and allows the horse to control the timber movement in steep down ward slopes. Can anyone name two operators and the type of horse?
