Challenger 33 with large mounted tine - Registration MGN685L
The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.
The deep tine plough working depth down to 90cms was used to plough and break up iron pans in felled mainly pine plantations where the ground conditions were dry and firm. The hope was to plant more productive spruce species.
The driver could be Bert Legge or Dod Irvine but very difficult to see inside the darkened cab. Can the man standing beside the tractor be named?
