Sand blowouts in pine planted sand dunes
The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.
This may be from Culbin or from other sand dune afforestation areas such as Tentsmuir Forest but does highlight the problems with bare sand planting and the loss of sand from the surface by wind erosion. The year is an absolute guess.
See PDF for another view of a young pine plant but this time in an added brash layer to stabilise the sand. It looks a bit happier.
Any comments and information would be very welcome.
