Burnt Forest ploughing near Rothbury, Northumberland

Andrew Allan (Callandar) had taken on a contract with the Forestry Commission to plough up a burnt plantation of Sitka spruce to enable it to be replanted.
Geordie comments: “Ploughing a burnt forest. Pretty rough in places.
Note the A-Frame and how it pushes dead trees out of the way. The A-Frame was to stop the trees getting between the tracks and the engine.”
Certainly not the easiest of work but the double furrow mounted tine is doing remarkably well in the conditions and producing two lines of soil that would be easy to plant into. Not certain that the whole of this site is suitable for Sitka spruce however as some areas look a bit dry.
