Ploughing problem on Eilanreach Estate, Glenelg
The photos are courtesy of Geordie Davidson via Tom McLellan, Taynuilt and show Geordie’s tractor having slid down a steep bank and turned sideways. His wife Sheena and young son in arms looking on.
Geordie says “This happened just after starting with Andrew Allan. I was new to the job and as can be seen I slid down the hill and bogged”.
The Caterpillar tractor is pulling what looks like a trailing Ross design plough most likely made by Clarks of Parkgate. No hydraulics and plough operated with wire cable on the tractor winch.
Geordie also cocomments "This was on Eilanreach Estate (Sandaig) – I could see Gavin Maxwell’s house on the shore when half way up the hill".
The next image shows the heavy solution to the problem!
