This lovely view from York Tower on top of the hill covers most of the then extent of Forestry Commission Newton Nursery. The nursery beds are all looking well in the summer sunshine and to the right is the quadrangle with the store sheds and forestry offices including those of Forest Research. To the right of them are the two Dorran type foresters’ houses one of which was certainly occupied by Research Forester Mike Phillips.

Directly in front through the summer haze are the outlines of some of the coastal forests of Morayshire including that of Roseisle Forest on the distant left.
