Felling Trees on the route of A9 improvements
Photograph courtesy of William Fleming, Polmont.
Willie says:
“This big oak which I cut down on The A9 in the seventies sat stationery for ten minutes after I had cut it right through. I can be seen on the left hand side of the photo walking away wondering what to do just as it decided to fall”.
Indeed quite a predicament and would have presented a major challenge if it had indeed stayed semi vertical. From the photograph is looks as though a large branches crossed the minor road and when the tree was cut through the large branches leaned on a minor tree on the other side.
Imagine if you had been up the tree or worse if you had been below! One for the case book!
You have to admit that it was a lovely tree and that it had endured many a winter.
