Glentress Students on brashing and thinning work

The image is courtesy of Jim McIntyre and Diane Icke, daughter of John Middleton featured in the photograph.

The students are obviously on a work experience part of their training and are look as though they are thinning out some trees from the stand behind them using a hand crosscut saw and axes. The trees also look freshly brashed with the branch stumps looking very white against the stems.

The reverse of this photo says 1949 and from the left are the following neames
1. ? MacKay
2. Alf Rogers
3. Bob Hyslop
4. Joe Metcalf
5. John W Middleton.

Note that there is a second John Middleton in later years as a student also at Glentress 1951-53.
