Canadian Forestry Corps Company No 25 sawmill at Mar Lodge

Canadian Forestry Corps (CFC) Company No 25 was one of eight companies based in the Deeside area as part of CFC District No 2. Records indicate the Mar Lodge camp construction began in December 1941 aided by men from Companies 2, 3, 4, 13 and 16. The team of men that formed Company No 25 (around 200) arrived in Deeside at the end of March, early April 1942 and no doubt began timber production shortly after.
This may be part of the building diagonally opposite the log chain entry point. Unfortunately the interior is too dark to make out the saw bench configuration. One would assume the bench runs left to right and as the final products are cut they drop off the saw bench onto the board conveyor and from there slide on to the board sorting line where several men are attending to the sizable products.
Note how the roof is supported over the long gap for the board conveyor. A double wire cable is used as a suspension system to hold the short intermediate roof supports in a very elegant solution to the problem of the wide span construction.
