Corrimony Forest Soil Map – Fort Augustus Forest District
One of a series of maps and drawings found in old ex military map cases stored in the loft of the Fort August Forest office and recovered by Grant Macintosh.
This soil map as a result of a survey by Steve Brown (Soil Surveyor) shows the complex nature of the ground conditions in the proposed Corrimony Forest acquisition. The drier linear ridges and knolls with some out crops of rock (soil categories 4 , 6 and 13r) are interspersed with hollows or small valleys on the floor of which are deep peat deposits (mainly soil categories 11 with some 14). This all indicates quite a difficult site to afforest with a timber producing crop.
