Glenshiel Forest planting and disposal map No 2
One of a group of hand drawn maps and drawings found in old ex military map cases stored in the loft of the Fort August Forest office and recovered by Grant Macintosh. This is one of a series of maps, printed on linen material, that tells a small part of the story of one forest – the story of land being offered for planting, some parts assessed as being suitable, land purchased and parts planted up and then surplus unplanted land sold off.
This map with a working date of 1938 shows more clearly the areas conveyed to Major Wilkie and perhaps some areas less clear as it would appear that possible planting area fence lines were proposed and then reconsidered and disposed. The area in blue hatch is a disposal to the Royal Infirmary. The planting by year boundaries from 1925 to 1933 are clearly shown but the compartment numbers and species details are omitted.
