Bearing in mind that this is a critical time of severe shortages in the WWII war effort the subject of the missing weevils could perhaps have been the start of a national emergency as 6 were missing out of a total count of 30,440!

W Rose assumed to be the forester in charge at Monaughty Forest must have wondered what sort of investigation would be appropriate to account for the missing weevils and how temporary was Mr Skinner’s work role.
