Sharp Slasher to hand

The tone and request conveyed in the letter from Aberdeen Divisional Office must have prompted someone to save this letter for posterity. The letter signed by the Divisional Accountant (G M Wilson?) asks that a sharpened slasher is always kept at hand by foresters for any visiting senior forestry officers on inspections duties.
One presumes the sharp edge tool was for brashing an access route into a forest or for clearing some obstructing vegetation rather than trimming a forester down to size!
