A general view overlooking the area of Fleet Nursery where the Forest Research team grew the young trees for their field experiments. Th small lots are indicated by the patch work of seed beds, each for a different species or seed parents. Compare these with the more expansive seed beds of the regular part of the forest nursery in the back ground.

Names and photographs of people who worked here would be very welcome.

The picture shows replicated expts. each plot was one square yard and there was 4 or five Blocks per expt. the subjects being tried at thet time were fertilisers, provenances, herbicides and chemicals for steralisation the standard product was formalin but Chloropicrin (Tear Gas) was used in one expt. it came in rusty old containers (from World War II) no masks were provided so some operators ended up collapsed into the surrounding Beech Hedge. The man in charge of expts at that time was the Late Murdo Macdonald and an assistant was a George Macgregor who later went out to Rhodesia.
