The comments reads; ‘Omorica on a rather steep slope in Compartment XVIB. Sample No 227. Granite.’

According to John Stirling Maxwell in his book on the Ossian Forest, the Omorica spruce was planted near to the road in 1908 quite a number of years after the initial planting of this area with Scots pine and spruce. Elevation around 1100ft.

Was JAB Macdonald in a role as Research Officer for Scotland at this time? Should have said in 1934 when he took the photograph?

The answer to the question raised, "Was JaB Macdonald CRO, Scotland?" No, is the answer. The Forestry Commission was not formed until 1919.
