This Challenger 33 tractor Reg No YYR991H operated by Duncan Chisholm is pulling a twin furrow plough and complete ploughing an iron pan soil site at Kininvie Wood in Craigellachie Forest. Complete ploughing was tried on a number of sites but the early benefits of faster growth from complete vegetation suppression soon fell off and on the less expensive spaced ploughing sites the trees all but caught up following canopy closure. A ripper bar and tine was used instead of a second plough head in later trials if iron pans were a sever problem.

The banksman walking nearby in most likely a local forest worker detailed to be on site for safety cover as the tractor driver would be lone working. Does anyone recognise the worker?

The PDF contains three other views of the operation, a visit to the site by District Officer David Foot, Duncan Chisholm and a view over the complete ploughed area.
