Restocking in Benmore Forest, Argyll
Photograph is courtesy and copyright of Forestry Commission, Forest Research, Roslin, and provided with help from Glen Brearley. FR Photo number No C4002 taken by B J Lambsdown.
This photograph clearly shows the challenge of replanting a forest through the debris, brash, lop and top following harvesting operations and clearing up after wind blow. At this time all harvesting done by hand and extraction by simple tractor or horse which did little to compress or breakdown the brash. Walking through the site was difficult enough but trying to plant a line of trees at equal spacing or in close proximity to each other was physically nearly impossible and crop spacing ended up as usually erratic at best and heavily understocked.
Can anyone name the gentleman?
