Longart Forest ( Inchbae) Bridge

Longart Forest ( Inchbae) Bridge

Date Added: 08 February 2017 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1932 Picture No: 3544

Early photograph taken in 1931 from a forestry album of 117 photographs compiled by an unknown Forestry Commission officer.

The photograph and the attached PDF shows the progress in building a vehicle bridge at Longart Forest (Near Inchbae) as at 6 3 1932. From the photographs it looks as though the abutments are build using local stone and cement with a hollow centre. The light shuttering on the face of the far abutment is a bit unusual unless it is to protect the cement and stone in the event of a flood before it is fully cured. Any suggestions welcome.

The final view in the PDF shows the fine looking bridge completed by 2 8 1932. Is this bridge still there or has it been replaced with a stronger variety?
