The photograph is courtesy of John Ireland with Forestry Commission based at Lochaber.
John Ireland (Fort Augustus FD Staff) and David Kidd (Inverness Forest District staff) at the Glasgow Garden festival in 1988 on the FC Stand. They travelled down by bus on a joint district visit organised by the staff.

The sculpture from memory was commissioned by Bob Jones of Design and Interpretation branch based in Edinburgh.

Can anyone name the figure, the person who made it and what happened to it after the festival?

This sculpture is called the Ancient Forester, it was created by David Kemp in 1988 in Grizedale Forest, which is where it returned to, in the main visitor centre car park. In 1995 it was moved further into the forest as Kemp made a second Ancient Forester which is still in the same position in the visitor centre to this day (Writing this in January 2019).
