Felled 200 year old tree at Rothiemay
The 1950 newspaper cutting is courtesy of Jim Morrison of Huntly showing an image of two men beside a 200 year old tree that they have just cut down.
The text says:
‘One by one the woodland veterans of Rothiemay have been falling – but the fall of ‘’Adam and Eve’’, two 120 foot high silver spruces (most likely European silver fir) which ‘’grew in beauty side by side’’ for two centuries, was attended by special ceremony. Here Douglas Campbell and Alex Webster are counting the rings of Adam’s trunk.’
Does anyone remember this event and the men? Going by the width of the gullet on either side of the raker teeth, the saw could well be an American made Disston – can anyone confirm?
