The twenty nine page booklet is subtitled ‘A review of Progress to 1964’ and written by H L Edlin who was the Forestry Commission Publications Officer. The booklet briefly describes the national topography, climate and soils, the national forest cover, successive forest policies, forest research and education.
One of the main sections of the book highlights the major change in the species composition of Britain’s forests as the new planting continues in 1964 followed by a more detailed description of the main species used. Finally there is a section on silviculture, home consumption of timber and current production levels with an ending chapter on the social implications of forestry.
