As a follow on to Forestry Memories No 383 three more very short Forest Descriptions written in 1951 are shown in the attached PDF - they are:
No5 Blackhall
No17 Durris
No32 Midmar
Points of note in Blackhall Forest description is the mention of the extensive wartime fellings by the Canadian Forestry Corps; (re)planting of the 2143 acre forest began in 1943 and at 1951 a total of 1573 had been completed; twenty five men employed and 12 houses built seven of which form a small community on the approach road.
Durris Forest notes mention a total of 3842 acres in 16 scattered blocks acquired in 1931 and by 1951 a total of 3510 acres had been planted; 16 men are employed and there are 5 forestry houses; nearby there is a seed extraction kiln where 1500lb of seed are extracted annually from cones collected in various parts of Scotland.
Midmar Forest dates from 1926 and totals 1340 acres of which 672 acres had been planted at time of writing; ten men were employed and three houses were built.
