RSFS tour and visit to harvesting site in Fetteresso Forest where the main subject appears to be thinning with a timber harvester during the early days of bringing in smaller harvester heads onto smaller excavator bases. This could be a an Atlas excavator base and certainly has a Pika 450 harvesting head fitted and carrying out thinning operations in Sitka spruce.

This is indeed an Atlas excavator base, with a Pika head. On some supplied the complete standard boom and dipper was changed for a Hiab assembly by Caledonian Forestry Services of Auchterarder giving a better envelope of operation for thinning work.

These machines were marketed by George Campbell of Bathgate, who started his career as an FC mechanic. Comment left on 21 May 2015 at 23:09 by David Shearer
