This Aberdeen Journals Photograph is courtesy of Aberdeen Journals and Forestry Commission, Moray and Aberdeenshire Forest District who hold the image.
The text on the back of the dramatic photograph ‘Section of 65 year old Scots pine and Norway spruce wood blown by Great Gale 31st January 1953. Sixty five years of growth laid low in as many minutes.’
The vast majority of trees have been uprooted but those that had a firmer hold have been beheaded and the bare stems stand forlorn among the fallen. See the larger version!
